New Airport Screenings Affect Muslims, Sikhs

DEARBORN, MICH. (2007-08-30) A local Muslim advocacy group is putting air travelers on notice about a new airport screening policy.

The Transportation Security Administration is subjecting anyone wearing a head covering to the possibility of a search of the hat, turban, or head scarf.

"We are advising that Muslims and Sikhs who are wearing head scarves or turbans should go to the security areas maybe 15 to 20 minutes early, expecting the delayed time of going through security so they don't miss their flights," said Dawud Walid, who heads the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Michigan.(MORE)
